![]() It wasn't uncomfortable on the feet, but it didn't wash off in the waves. We are a bit spoiled in the sand department, as we're coming from the fine white sandy beaches in Daytona Beach. There is also a sign on the road before you approach the parking lot for area #5 reminding you that it's a clothing optional area. All of the other parking areas (1 through 4) are family friendly, clothing required beaches. BUT- we did see some nude sunbathers, so I would not recommend taking your kiddos to this part of the beach. We did not plan on swimming, so we were wearing shorts and tshirts. We travelled to Lot #5, all the way at the end of the road. ![]() * There are lots of noseeums, mosquitos and horse flies out there. You can still use the beach even if you want to keep your swim wear on. However, if you choose to go beyond your comfort zone to enjoy feeling the sun and wind all over, you'll won't regret it. If the thought of seeing folks of all ages, shapes and sizes without clothing, turn around now. And there is no MAY about it, you WILL see naked people enjoying life at the beach. This beautiful section of beach is clothing optional. *WARNING* Before you reach Lot 5, you'll see the sign notifying visitors that they may see nude sunbathers at Boardwalk 5. They're small and can fill up quickly on weekends and holidays. There are 5 beach parking areas, each located about 2 miles apart. If you come at the right moment, you may witness the hatchlings making their way from the nest to the Atlantic Ocean. This beach along with neighboring Klondike and Playalinda beaches are home to many thousands of sea turtle nests. Just be sure to bring everything you will need for a day at the beach. Personally, I would only use these in a dire emergency, but at least it is available. It is not groomed like other public beaches, there are no food trucks or any concessions available, no showers, and there are only outhouse type toilet facilities. Located within the Canaveral National Park, this is a natural beach. Turtle Watch programs give park visitors a unique opportunity to learn about sea turtles and the role that the National Park Service plays in their conservation.What a great beach this is. ![]() Further information and instruction will be sent to you within two (2) weeks of your phone call. Please have several dates in mind when you call, and we ask that you keep your calls brief. The programs for 2022 will be provided in both districts of the seashore, the Playalinda District, Titusville and the Apollo district, New Smyrna Beach, programs will run from 8:00 p.m. During the summer, programs are scheduled on most Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Fees will not be refunded if a sea turtle is not found. While visitors are not guaranteed a view of a nesting sea turtle, the 2017 success rate exceeded 90%. Children must be 8 years old to participate. Persons with Access or a Senior Pass receive a 50% discount for the cardholder only. The fee for this program is $14.00 per person ages 16 and above, 15 and under are free. ![]() Programs are limited to thirty (30) persons per night with a maximum of six (6) persons per reservation call. The programs are open to all persons eight (8) years of age and older. Starting Sunday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m., staff at Canaveral National Seashore will begin taking telephone reservations for this year’s summer Turtle Watch programs. ![]()
